You won't believe where this marine mammal decided to take a break! A surprising sight unfolded in Vancouver's English Bay recently, leaving onlookers amazed. While it's common for those working in Vancouver Harbour to spot marine life like whales and dolphins during their daily routines, one particular sighting stood out as exceptionally peculiar.
David Raglin, a ship's agent with extensive experience navigating the waters and visiting vessels, was returning from a grain ship anchored in the bay. As he was disembarking onto a launch, the driver drew his attention to an extraordinary scene. Perched atop the rudder of the colossal freighter, a seal was found lounging quite comfortably, seemingly unfazed by its unusual perch high above the water.
Raglin, who has witnessed many remarkable occurrences in his profession, admitted this was a first. The exact method by which the seal ascended to this elevated position, and its motivations for choosing such a spot, remain a mystery. However, the animal appeared perfectly content, striking poses for the onlookers on the launch who were busy capturing the moment with their cameras.
But here's where it gets a bit more intriguing... While we often think of seals enjoying the open water or rocky shores, this particular seal seemed to embrace a more industrial, albeit temporary, resting place. It raises questions about animal adaptability and their unexpected interactions with human environments.
And this is the part most people miss... Could this seal have been seeking a unique vantage point, a quiet escape from the busy bay, or perhaps even a novel way to travel? The sheer audacity of its choice is what makes this story so captivating. It’s a gentle reminder that nature often finds ways to surprise us in the most unexpected of places.
